Don’t settle for ordinary

Makeup artist and Hairstylist Bio

As a teenager I remember wanting to be a makeup artist and as I was readying to leave school I can remember my careers advisor laughing, as back in the 80’s a makeup artist was rare breed.

Sadly it did put me off at the time and I decided that instead of my developing a career in my artistry I would train to be a nurse and so I went away and completed my 3 years training, qualified as a general nurse and went on to practice for 10 years. I never regretted a day, as caring for others made me the person and the artist I am today.

My makeup and hair journey began sometime later in 2004, with the first of many make-up courses in London, just behind Oxford Street; The London School of Beauty and Make-Up.

From there I specialised in bridal to start with and after a couple of years I studied fashion and beauty makeup and of course hairstyling, which I love!

Since 2004 I have enjoyed so many years of doing shoots, fashion shows and special occasion makeup and hair and I have met some incredible people along the way.

My highlight definitely was being recommended by British Vogue as a bridal make-up artist and hairstylist as this was a great compliment and achievement.

I’ve also had the pleasure and honour of having my work published in Vogue Italia, US publication Lioness, Brides and a Your Kent Wedding front cover.

My work has been published on websites, including Rock My Wedding and Whimiscal Wonderland Weddings.

Autumn 2019 myself and the girls from the salon were invited to look after the models hair for The National Wedding Show at Olympia!!! OMG! What a weekend we had.

Sarah Rumsey, Director of The Peacock Rooms salon Sevenoaks

All the years as a nurse working on the front line with the public have been invaluable as they have moulded me into a salon owner, makeup artist and hairstylist who can cope well in high stress environments and situations. It has given me a perspective on life that means I can keep calm when everything around me is crazy. I’m well known for my calm approach and caring attitude towards my clients which I’m very proud of.

For me makeup is an art and my client’s face is my canvas and therefore the make-up and techniques I use change so as to be very flattering for each individual.

Alongside beautiful flawless natural make-up comes excellent customer service and of course it’s part of the whole experience for my clients to leave feeling relaxed, cared for and pampered.

Red carpet and special occasion makeup should be about enhancing your natural beauty and highlighting your favourite features and playing down those you feel less confident about, so that you feel incredible and have the confidence to walk into the event and light up the room. The makeup should be on trend and polished, together with fabulous hairstyling you will be ready to hit any red carpet event!

Every woman deserves to feel and look amazing even if for only our special occasions or one or two days a year. With this I can always help you…

Fashion and beauty shoots are unique as they are worked to a brief or mood board and the creativity can sometimes be wild and certainly not for everyday use. Nevertheless they are fun and amazing opportunities for me to show off my creative nature and explore my imagination.
